Quarterly triggers beyond the calendar
Quarterly drills are a floor, not a ceiling. Certain events should force a micro-rehearsal even when the spreadsheet says you are “fine until March.”
Trigger list we see work
- New signer or observer joins the roster
- Hardware wallet firmware or companion app changes
- Office move, travel kit redesign, or safe relocation
- Backup medium replaced (new plates, new sealed envelopes, new storage vendor)
- Any near-miss where someone almost improvised a restore
Keep micro-drills micro
A trigger drill can be fifteen minutes: verify inventory cards, walk the first three script steps, confirm abort language, stop. The win is freshness, not heroic completeness.
Log the trigger, not just the date
Write “why now” in the scenario name. Future you will care whether the drill followed a staffing change or a packaging refresh.
