Two-person integrity for restore rehearsals
Two-person integrity is often described as a security control. In drill season it is also a documentation control. When one person performs and another watches, the written record improves because memory has a peer.
Separate the roles on paper
Do not let the performer fill the observer column “for convenience.” The point of the second seat is friction. If staffing is thin, shorten the scenario rather than merging roles.
Observers narrate less, timestamp more
Helpful coaching mid-drill can hide gaps you need to see. Train observers to note the time a step started, whether it matched the script, and only then decide whether an interrupt is warranted for safety.
Rotate who watches
The same senior person observing every quarter recreates a single point of interpretation. Rotate observers so junior staff learn what “good notes” look like and seniors rediscover how unclear their own scripts can be.
